When Internet Solutions (IS), a leading South African converged communications services provider, agreed to host the Web site for the inaugural Women`s World Cup of Golf in February 2005, it had no idea the site would experience so many hits. Over 24 million hits were recorded during the tournament.
IS marketing manager Kate Michalaro said: "We are used to playing a sponsorship role in major golf tournaments, including the Dimension Data ProAm, but we were surprised by the number of hits and unique visitors to the Women`s World Cup of Golf site last year. This tournament is doing a lot to promote women`s golf not just locally, but around the world."
The second Women`s World Cup of Golf will be played at the Gary Player Country Club at Sun City from 20 to 22 January, and will feature 20 countries competing over three rounds of betterball, foursomes and strokeplay for a $1.1 million purse.
"With the world`s top professional women golfers playing in this year`s field, including the world number one - Annika Sorenstam - we`re expecting an even greater number of hits on the Web site. The 2005 tournament established the event as a world-class golf competition and golf fans and media from all over the globe who can`t get to Sun City will be using the site to get real-time information. Last year produced a worldwide television audience of over 450 million households, and many of these will visit the site to get player profiles, see photographs of the players and the course, as well as see the hole by hole scoring. We are ready," concludes Michalaro.
Internet Solutions is contracted to host the Women`s World Cup Web site initially for three years - 2005-2007.
