Converged communications service provider, Internet Solutions (IS), and mobile software supplier LayerOne, have signed a joint venture agreement (JV).
The deal follows the successful convergence of the companies` technologies to create a software layer that rivals the functionality of the soon to be imported BlackBerry. Jointly developed, the mobile e-mail and calendar solution allows corporate users to send and receive e-mail and calendar updates to and from their mobile devices at a fraction of the competitive price.
"There`s a great deal of synergy between us," says Richard Vester, general manager of Mobile Solutions at IS. "We`ve been moving heavily into GPRS solutions to bring mobility solutions to our customers, as well as cater for EDGE and 3G as the technology gains acceptance. So with LayerOne`s middleware and our delivery and access, especially in wireless, we can offer unparalleled quality of service, coverage and reliability. We expect these mobile solutions to really take off this year."
Says Stuart Hardy, Managing Director of LayerOne: "Internet Solutions has already achieved substantial success in the mobility space with the introduction of wireless and GPRS services. We believe the LayerOne service will add another element to their offerings, which fulfils a fast growing requirement in the local market. It has made a lot of sense for us to enter into this JV - which we are very excited about."
To complement their existing services, within the next three months the companies are also expected to launch a consumer service for access to other personal e-mail accounts.
