Internet Solutions poised for growth

Internet Data Centres increased in size, capacity
Johannesburg, 12 Jan 2006

Internet Solutions (IS), a leading converged communications services provider, is ready for expected increased customer demand for hosting in its local Internet Data Centres (IDCs).

"Over the past years we have seen a fairly steady rise in demand for fully managed hosted services," says Sean Nourse, manager, Hosting Solutions at IS. "But there was a bigger increase in 2005 of around 25%, much of it due to the advent of ADSL services at more affordable prices. In addition, customers are seeing a greater acceptance of online services in their customer base, especially for banking and financial services. As services become more readily available online and with lower hardware prices, so the usage rises and demand increases. We need to be ready to accommodate these needs."

Nourse says the Umhlanga IDC space now stands at 120m2 and it has upgraded the air conditioning units and added fire suppression. In the Rosebank IDC, a new 200 m2 IDC - christened Gamma - has been built, along with three 50KW air conditioners, fire suppression, three vaults and 14 cabinets. The total space at Rosebank is now 760m2. Plans are also in place to upgrade the Cape Town IDC within the first quarter 2006.
