Internet Solutions provides affordable hosting options for SMEs

Slimline Solution provides SMEs with enterprise-class dedicated hosting at half the cost
Johannesburg, 20 Jan 2005

Converged communications service provider Internet Solutions (IS) now provides SMEs with dedicated hosting services at a fraction of the costs associated with the capital outlay and cost of ownership of having their own high-end servers.

The Slimline Solution includes a rented entry-level server with the standard Microsoft operating system bundled in. It is thus suitable for SMME-type customers who do not want to purchase hardware outright and who still need a high-power server that doesn`t have to scale indefinitely. Monitoring and standard support are included by highly qualified engineers.

Sean Nourse, newly appointed general manager of the Hosting Division at IS, says the Slimline Solution has been well received by smaller virtual ISPs, value-added resellers who offer hosting to their customers, and small to medium companies who require dedicated hardware to operate efficiently.

"The capital outlay for a top-end, high-power server is considerable, as is the cost of staff required to maintain it," says Nourse. "We have long given customers the ability to have a shared hosting service or even have their own server hosted by us. Slimline is a bundled deal that is extremely affordable, always has the current MS operating system, and the server is fully maintained and supported within one of IS`s four Internet data centres (IDCs), located in Rosebank, Bryanston, Cape Town and the recently launched Umhlanga IDC."

"Since its launch it has proved very popular with customers, especially those delivering a VISP service either internally or externally, the server is `theirs` and they have full access and can load whatever they like on it. It`s like a leased car - theirs without any hassles," he says.

For less than R2 500 per month, the customer gets:

* 250MB bandwidth threshold per month
* IDC space
* Ping port protocol monitoring
* Standard support
* Slimline server (P4 2.8GHz CPU, 256MB RAM, 1x36GB hdd)
* Windows standard OS and IIS software rental

Fully upgradeable to other hosting solutions, the Slimline Solution is an excellent entry-level solution.
