IS sponsored the successful stand-up comedy fundraiser show, Laugh Out Loud, in 2002 which did good things for many South African artists and in turn raised an overwhelming amount of money for Reach for a Dream. IS`s latest colourful diversion will capture everyone`s imagination - we are talking Crazy Monkey -the series of funny inserts that have been seen on MTV around the world for the past three years.
IS has developed and provided the infrastructure for the online activities of The Crazy Monkey movie, which is due to be released by Ster-Kinekor in August. Take a look at www.crazymonkeymovie.com - you are going to laugh.
The Crazy Monkey team is a fresh and talented bunch that has had its antics broadcast around the world for quite some time. The film it has recently finished shooting and is now editing is set to take the country by storm. IS is very proud, and excited, to be associated with this innovative and inspired bunch. Its humble and refreshing approach is reminiscent of IS` roots, and something that IS continues to aspire to on a daily basis.
IS helped the Crazy Monkey team in more than just a hi-tech way. In the final climax of the movie, there is a scene in a bar in Benoni called the Snuggery that is packed with extras. If you look closely, you will see an abundance of IS faces, including IS`s CEO, Angus MacRobert.
"We are very excited to be able to contribute to South African artists that are pushing the envelope and that are making a product that is proudly South African. We give them a very big two thumbs up!" says MacRobert.
Greg Payne, who heads up the IS Hosting division, and who was born and bred in Benoni, features as an extra in this scene too.
Payne says: "This movie is all heart. It is going to put Benoni on the map and hopefully will inspire people to follow their dreams. We are very proud to be a part of this cool adventure and to be able to help these talented guys."
The Web site is state-of-the art, utilising all kinds of database and tracking technologies to enable the Crazy Monkey team to maximise its online reach. It also includes some funky flash animation and a whole bunch of Easter eggs which you have to see to believe.
The Crazy Monkey team has been sponsored by one of IS`s founders, Ronnie Apteker. Apteker met Brendan Jack, the lead actor in the film and one of the founders and screenplay writers of the Crazy Monkey, doing stand-up comedy in 2002 during the time of Laugh Out Loud. There was an instant connection and a fruitful relationship followed. The end result is a wonderful collaboration of hi-tech wizards, entrepreneurs and artists.
The Crazy Monkey movie was shot over November and December last year on location in Benoni. It is the story of two guys, Brendan and Gavin, who have their 10-year high school reunion looming over their heads and they don`t want to go because they are the biggest losers in their class.
When we meet the twosome, the reunion is the next day and there is a crazy race against the clock to change their lives, lift their game and make something of themselves before the big night. What follows is a heart-warming and funny adventure of two guys who try to make good in the world. It is an accessible story with universal appeal and we are very excited about its release. We hope, that like IS, these guys will get to realise their dreams. And in doing so, they will inspire many South Africans to follow their dreams too.
