Internet Solutions (IS) has secured the last of the remaining broadband capacity available on the SAT 2-fibre link to the UK. This complements its existing service by increasing redundancy levels and boosts service levels to 99.95%.
By acquiring the 34meg SAT 2 service and adding this to the existing STM1 (155Meg) service terminating in New York and London, IS is able to offer corporate clients additional redundancy options, making its service the most comprehensive in the country.
Ian Isenberg, General Manager of IS`s Access Division, states: "Currently Internet service providers offer connectivity that is reliant on one undersea fibre link between SA and Portugal. Should a break in this fibre link occur, all connectivity will be rerouted via the South African Far East (SAFE) cable. This has the disadvantage of increased latency, which could prove to be disastrous for many organisations. Businesses running applications such as SAP rely heavily on low latency and we are now able to offer fully redundant services over two separate cables, SAT 2 and SAT 3, and maintain the lowest latency possible, even under reroute conditions."
Clients who opt for SAT 3 and an element of SAT 2 will have the benefit of being re-routed onto the alternate should an outage occur. This increased redundancy ensures greater availability and increases service levels to an unprecedented 99.95%.
"We continue to offer the all important penalty clauses in our service level agreements; this is our way of reassuring customers that we will stand by the best available service," concludes Isenberg.
Established in 1993 as the country`s first commercial Internet service provider, IS has grown in stature and today attracts 80% of the SA`s top 250 listed companies. IS remains the leading ISP with a market share of over 50%. Probably one of the country`s most successful post-apartheid companies, IS has expanded from being a pure Internet connectivity provider to an innovative and pioneering business with services that include Internet access, VPNs, hosting, dial-up, security and business gateway solutions. Testimony to its recognition as a market leader, IS has earned an impressive collection of awards, which includes eight First National Bank "Most Admired" awards, Professional Management Review silver and golden arrow awards, Financial Mail Deloitte & Touche Best Company to Work for Award and even a Loerie award for its design work.
In 2002 IS was certified as a Cisco Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP), the first and only company outside of the US to be awarded this accolade. The CPN-MSSP brand associates IS with the worldwide leaders in Internet security.
