InterScan VirusWall from Trend Micro voted best virus protection - takes W2Knews W2KnewsTarget Awards 2000

Johannesburg, 24 Oct 2000

SecureData, an ERP.com company and the exclusive sub-Saharan distributors of Trend Micro Inc, a leading provider of enterprise antivirus and content for the age, today announced Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall product was awarded the W2KnewsTarget Award 2000 for Best Virus . Nominated products were rated based on feature set, price, and overall value and functionality by users and subscribers to W2Knews, the world's largest E-Newsletter designed for Windows NT system managers. The awards were presented by Sunbelt-Software, publishers of W2Knews, at the Microsoft Exchange and Collaboration Conference held in Dallas, TX. Trend Micro beat out products from Symantec, McAfee, and Computer Associates to win this prestigious award.

A recent survey published by Information Security magazine found 80% of their corporate respondents experienced external security breaches from viruses, Trojans, and worms, while 37% reported problems with malicious mobile code (ActiveX, JavaScript, VBS). These findings underline the increasing prevalence of Internet threats and the need for organizations to protect themselves at the Internet gateway.

Trend Micro's InterScan VirusWall provides a high-performance antivirus solution at the Internet gateway, stopping viruses and other malicious code before it spreads through servers and desktops. SMTP, HTTP, and FTP traffic is scanned for the latest Trojans and viruses as well as for malicious ActiveX and Java code. Administrators can get the latest virus pattern file updates manually or automatically from the web, and centrally manage security policy from a web-based remote console.

"This award is especially meaningful to Trend Micro as the award was received from the people who use Trend's products day in and day out," said Wayne Biehn, Sales Director, SecureData. "System managers are among the most demanding and knowledgeable users of networking solutions - InterScan VirusWall's selection for Best Virus Protection product is a real stamp of approval from those who best understand the need for a secure Internet infrastructure."

Trend Micro pioneered the concept of Internet gateway virus scanning when it introduced InterScan VirusWall in October of 1995 and has led the industry with innovative antivirus technology solutions ever since. Today, InterScan VirusWall is one of the most stable and scalable antivirus solutions on the market. InterScan VirusWall supports a wide array of computing platforms, including Windows NT, Solaris, Red Hat Linux and HP-UX.

InterScan has won numerous awards and accolades including the Editor's Choice Awards from Network Computing and Smart Reseller magazines.

InterScan VirusWall

Trend Micro InterScan VirusWall provides high-performance, three-in-one real-time Internet gateway protection against viruses and malicious code. InterScan installs on the gateway server. Trend Micro's virus scanning engine, MacroTrap, incorporates both rule-based and pattern recognition technologies that detect and clean known and unknown viruses and malicious code. Integration with the Trend Virus Control System means that Internet gateway protection can be managed as an integral part of an enterprise-wide antivirus effort. InterScan is fully integrated with Check Point FireWall-1 and is compatible with most other major firewalls.

The InterScan eManager optional plug-in to InterScan VirusWall adds content management tools allowing the administrator to control the type of email data entering or leaving the network at the Internet gateway.
