Merchandise released in South Africa to coincide with the launch of Chicken Run will be available immediately thanks to an on-line store powered by Intershop.
Intershop, who specialises in sell-side e-commerce solutions, launched the site in October, a full two months ahead of the release of the movie. "This is the first time that toys, clothing and other items are available long before the movie is released,`` says Intershop South Africa marketing manager Jacqui van Zyl. Intershop was selected by Terra Nova Media and Internet Logistics to launch an e-commerce site for Aardman, the Oscar-winning creator of the Wallace & Gromit series and the blockbuster film Chicken Run. The official website, http://www.aardman.co.uk, with full sell-side and purchasing capabilities, was developed in only four weeks for Internet Logistics, the online trading and fulfillment specialists and exclusive owner of the worldwide online distribution rights for Aardman`s complete merchandise range. In addition to Chicken Run products, the aardmarket website also offers other Aardman character merchandise such as Wallace and Gromit, Rex the Runt, Morph and Creature Comforts.
"The site has several advantages over physical stores, in that they are quick and inexpensive to set up, and can be accessed by customers anywhere in the world," says Van Zyl. "Intershop was able to deliver on all accounts. Aardman is delighted with the site traffic, which has already exceeded initial expectations, with 50% of the hits coming from the United States."
