Intervate makes BEE grade

Johannesburg, 03 Feb 2009

Intervate has announced its qualification as a level 4 contributor on South Africa's broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) scorecard. The accreditation was done by the Emex Trust, a black economic empowerment verification provider.

The BBBEE scorecard is a measuring instrument used to track BEE in South Africa. It measures the contribution made by business owners to the BEE initiative and historically disadvantaged individuals (HDIs).

“Even though Intervate is a small enterprise, we take our black economic empowerment seriously,” says Mpumi Nhlapo, Intervate's sales director. “The company has achieved its current ranking through organic growth and a commitment to finding and developing local talent.

“Intervate will continue this tradition, building South Africa's premier empowered Microsoft Gold Certified Partner and Enterprise Content Management (ECM) solutions leader, while also further increasing our commitment to developing the technical skills the country needs.”

At its current ranking, Intervate has attained a BEE procurement recognition of 100%, allowing it to contribute its skills and intellectual capital to any projects within the republic.

Intervate's commitment to skills upliftment has gained momentum with the intake of 10 new previously disadvantaged individuals enrolled in the Intervate Learnership Programme. The previous set of five learners completed the programme in 2008, with four people finding permanent employment within Intervate.

The company has undertaken learner development since 2000. Learners are supported through a six-month full-time training and certification programme followed by a six-month internship and mentorship within the business.

“Intervate's commitment to BEE is not only a matter of attaining the specified ranking on the scorecard. The company has a long history of educating previously disadvantaged learners,” adds Nhlapo, “and we believe the skills shortage will only be overcome when all companies commit serious focus to identifying and developing the incredible potential within the people of our country.” In celebration of this philosophy, Intervate recently held a “We've Got Talent” event, featuring some of the country's emerging and leading musicians and entertainers.
