Intervid-Africa CCTV expands into fire detection

Intervid CCTV expands into cutting-edge integrated fire detection systems in South Africa, allowing businesses peace of mind in the protection of their assets and people.

Fire alarm systems have previously relied on systems that alert the necessary people once the fire is at its destructive stage and while integrated fire alarms are far from a new technology, when integrated with access control and CCTV systems they become a far more potent fire detection and prevention tool that produce fewer false alarms.

"Intervid CCTV is currently selling the Technoswitch, Ziton, Aritech and Bosch range of fire detection products. This is mainly because these products suites integrate well with other CCTV system brands," explains Martin Jones, Sales Manager at Intervid CCTV.

The integrated systems were developed to help prevent, respond to and protect in dire situations, making it possible to detect at the earliest warning signs of a possible fire, the ability to know who is in each area of the building if a fire does occur and provide immediate assistance to evacuate the building.

"Intervid has had great success with the introduction of the fire detection systems into its range of solutions. A few of our flagship installations have included Sutherlands Leather Tannery, with the installation of a multi-criteria detector that combines optical, thermal and carbon monoxide detection for the factory production environment; the Angolan Embassy has a fully integrated system with access control and fire detection; Maritime House in Durban ? the 20-floor high rise building was installed with the state of the art fire detection; and Pietermaritzburg High Court and Formula One Hotel Richards Bay, which have fully integrated fire detection systems for public areas," said Martin Jones of Intervid CCTV.

New modern fire detectors take into account the rate of the temperature rise within an area and then raise alerts when this goes beyond a specific level. The systems are also able to determine between smoke particles and other particles such as dust and condensation this helps prevent false alarms and unnecessary concerns. The integrated systems do this by monitoring the smoke density and particle size, through the use of one infrared and one blue LED source that are able to compare the amount of dispersed light from the different wavelengths.

"Fire detection and its associated peripheral products are exciting new areas for us to be entering with Intervid, we take each site very seriously as we understand the responsibility around a well-designed and installed fire solution," concludes Ryan Lumley, Director of Intervid.
