Intervid-Africa CCTV's lasting relationship with Illovo Sugar Mills

Johannesburg, 07 Jan 2014

Intervid has been tasked with the installation and integration of CCTV systems at the Illovo Sugar Mills for over 13 years. Intervid has used a holistic approach in managing the sugar mills' facilities with a central CCTV management system. The various sugar mills are monitored by Axis one-megapixel iP cameras, with the latest Windows-based network video recorder (NVR) managing multiple systems and IP cameras on a single integrated platform.

This system is linked to a RAID-based backup server, giving up to 36 terabytes of backup recording space to ensure the client is able to quickly retrace and study incidents. The nature of these mills requires a sizable amount of support, high-definition CCTV images and sufficient recording space.

Illovo Sugar Mills relies heavily on Intervid's weighbridges. The weighbridge interface is used to monitor the weight of the vehicles on entry and exit; the cameras identify and monitor the trucks on the weighbridge, which then capture the registration plates and overlay the weight and tariff on the video image. This system is used to confirm the load value for the cane growers.

The system hardware set up at Illovo is able to monitor day and night, and has been integrated into the perimeter electric fence, which reflects alarms on the integrated site map software, advising the security at what zone the alarm has been triggered. The fixed or dome cameras have been configured to automatically record this event, and bring the images to the main viewing screen.

The system software has been similarly integrated into the existing access control system in order to link the video and access control event to an individual as well as reflect the movement and location of the staff as they tag in. Additionally, the fire detection system reflects any alarmed events on the site map and provides automatic recording of the event from the nearest cameras.

Intervid's lasting relationship with Illovo is due to its excellent customer relations, timely and supportive service and the ability to provide the latest technologies.

Intervid-Africa provides the South African market with cameras that have been recognised and approved by the South African court of law.

"Most imported CCTV systems are not recognised or approved for use in a South African court of law. However, the Intervid system is designed and manufactured in South Africa and complies with South African court requirements, permitting all footage captured by the surveillance system as admissible in court," said Martin Jones, Regional Sales manager, KZN, Intervid-Africa
