The new IBMThinkPad X Series adds a Titanium Composite top cover to some serious internal hardware to deliver a notebook with a travel weight that starts at a mere 3.1lb. "The ThinkPad X Series is designed for extra-light portability and at just 1-inch slim, these machines are the perfect mobile computing solution for users on the move who need features and performance in a compact package," declares Ross Matthee, business manager for IBM at Tarsus Technologies. He reveals that ThinkPad X Series notebooks are powered by Intel Mobile Pentium III processors at 600MHz or Celeron processors at 500MHz. "Remarkably, users can expect up to 3.8 hours of battery life," states Matthee.

Key Features: ThinkPad X Series

  • UltraPort connector to support the optional UltraPort Camera, Bluetooth solution (planned availability fourth quarter 2000), and UltraPort Array Microphone

  • Built-in Compact Flash slot, PC Card slot, 2 USB ports, RJ-11 and RJ-45 ports

  • ThinkLight keyboard light to illuminate the keyboard in low-light

  • Optional UltraBase X2 media slice for access to media devices while traveling includes additional ports, stereo speakers, diskette drive, and optional modular Ultrabay 2000 (Ultrabay 2000 devices common with A Series and T Series)

  • User-accessible Communications Bay accommodates modem or modem/LAN combo Mini cards

Matthee adds that the optional UltraBase X2 media slice has been specifically designed for the ThinkPad X Series. "The lightweight UltraBase X2 media slice is ideal for taking advantage of media devices while on the road - just snap your ThinkPad X Series notebook into the media slice for additional functionality including DVD-ROM," he concludes.
