Intrusion prevention solutions released

TippingPoint has introduced two new intrusion prevention systems designed to secure network traffic for small and medium enterprises, states Help Net Security.

The TippingPoint 110 and TippingPoint 330 provide security for organisations with remote or branch offices as well as managed security service providers focused on delivering dedicated protection services for their customers' assets.

Both solutions provide traffic inspection and filtering using TippingPoint's Digital Vaccine service to identify and block security threats before they impact the network. Additionally, both products can be managed locally or by using the TippingPoint Security Management System for more robust management and reporting options.

Suggestions posted on Dell's IdeaStorm Web site were instrumental in shaping the technology giant's latest portfolio of PowerEdge servers that serve an emerging segment of the vital SME market, reports SiliconRepublic.

Aamir Paul, who runs the advanced systems group in charge of server sales across Europe at Dell, says the inclusion of features such as an eSata port for SME IT managers to migrate data as well as one-button push configuration, were directly influenced by suggestions on the IdeaStorm Web site.

IdeaStorm was a service Dell introduced to gauge public opinion on features they would like included in Dell products.

SMEs choose SAP solutions over other products on the market chiefly because of the company's reputation in the enterprise, and because they want an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that needs little customisation, according to V3.

The actual functionality supplied by SAP to the SME market seemed a lesser concern according to customers at an event in London to discuss implementing SAP solutions.

"Our customers are big pharmaceutical companies and they want to see us using a reliable system," says Mark Ipema, operations manager at Dishman, a life sciences company in the Netherlands.
