Iona extends ships iPortal Suite with Integration Server

Johannesburg, 19 Apr 2000

Iona Technologies, the enterprise portal company represented locally by CCH Development, has announced the immediate availability of the iPortal Integration Server, the application integration component of the iPortal Suite that provides the connectivity necessary for developing and deploying B2B portals.

One of the five components of a complete e-business platform, the iPortal Integration Server provides a multi-cast messaging infrastructure, application adapters, graphical support tools and a workflow engine to help organisations integrate front- and back-office systems with legacy and e-commerce applications. The iPortal Integration Server supports open standards such as XML, Corba, J2EE, COM, CICS, IMS and IIOP.

"Business process integration is the cornerstone of e-business, and the companies that achieve this integration will survive and thrive in the new e-economy," says Themi Themistocleous, director of CCH Software Development.

Features of the iPortal Integration Server include:

  • A scalable multi-cast messaging infrastructure supports growing, unpredictable and dynamic needs. This infrastructure uses a hub-and-spoke architecture that leverages Iona`s distributed Corba notification capabilities for scalable and dependable decoupled and asynchronous messaging.

  • Application adapters provide realtime communication between applications.

  • Three types of adapters are available with the iPortal Integration Server. Standard "out-of-the-box" adapters support major applications such as those provided by SAP, PeopleSoft, Baan and Siebel. Legacy adapters support CICS, IMS and custom OS/390 applications. Custom adapters support other applications via the Integration Server Adapter Toolkit.

  • Workflow engine supports process that enables users to graphically describe and manage e-business transactions and processes. The workflow engine automates complex cross-enterprise workflows by defining and storing them as XML documents. The workflow engine also provides full support for emerging XML process standards such as RosettaNet and BizTalk.

  • Graphical support tools allow users to graphically map the extraction, transformation and routing of messages.

  • Integration Server Engine is a highly scalable rules engine that receives, examines and processes data through user-definable processes. iPortal Integration Server supports Sun Solaris 5.6 or later, HP/UX 10.2 or later and Windows NT 4.0.
