IP networked video surveillance now a possibility with Emergia Solutions

Johannesburg, 29 Jan 2005

Emergia Solutions, a BEE company, now offers the ultimate solution for video surveillance which takes CCTV several levels higher. With products supplied by German partner, Controlware GmbH, Emergia Solutions supplies and integrates video surveillance solutions via the IP protocol.

"We can remotely control any number of cameras, complete with pan, tilt and zoom features for optimal surveillance," according to MD, Eugene Smith. "We also offer motion detection and face recognition, with alarms to alert security personnel to any specified problems. The solution is flexible, allowing for both local and remote recording."

Emergia employs Controlware lab-trained engineers for the integration. This enables the company to offer the best possible support and training to customers on the products. In general, the products are proven and reliable, having been deployed in major airports in Europe such as Orly Airport, Hamburg Airport and Charles de Gaulle. In addition, they are also used for traffic surveillance and stadium security in Europe. Locally, the solutions have been deployed on mines and in retail stores.

"We have set up a complete demo in our lab in Johannesburg to enable customers to witness the capabilities of our system first hand before they make a purchase decision," says Smith. "We understand the security needs that lead to the requirement for network video, and can assist customers in making a decision on configuration and network capacity. If a client wishes to see MPEG2 or 4 quality video, we can advise on this. If it is only a few frames per second, this is also fine."

Emergia Solutions`s management software enables the viewing of the cameras on several screens, depicting each individual area covered by the camera, a digital map of the area covered and alarms to attend to. Voice can also be enabled to allow communication with the target area for security personnel to be guided to problem areas.

Smith believes that carriers can benefit from offering the solution in such a security conscious country as South Africa. This is because they operate IP networks which can offer the application to home owners and corporations, particularly at night when networks are likely to be used less and bandwidth becomes available.
