The iPad has revolutionised handheld computing, sparking the explosive growth of the tablet market. Millions of users around the world use iPads every day, not only for personal use, but in their professional capacities as well.

Today, tablet computers are popular at all levels, creating a truly empowered workforce achieving new degrees of productivity and mobility.

For a time, enterprises resisted allowing these new devices onto the corporate , but user pressure, driven by the versatility and convenience of the iPad, has resulted in a new trend of enterprise computing, dubbed “bring your own device”, or .

At its heart, BYOD goes beyond merely allowing users to bring their favourite gadgets to work. It is a fundamental rethink of enterprise IT and the role of the user, with implications for enterprise application developers, infrastructure managers, professionals and more.

The “iPad in Enterprise” event, sponsored by Core Group, is designed for anyone operating in, or considering, a BYOD environment. Experts will discuss the trends driving BYOD usage and how this is empowering users in new ways, delving into the infrastructure, management and security requirements of these devices in an enterprise network, and exploring the ways in which enterprise applications can be extended and integrated to iPad users.

“We recognise that the trend of BYOD has increased with the consumerisation of IT and the launch of the iPad. The use of Apple technology has increased substantially in the enterprise space with the rise in demand by employees to utilise their personal technology. The iPad in Enterprise event aims to explain why organisations should embrace BYOD technology as a productivity and staff-retention tool and will give guidance on successfully integrating iPad technology with company-managed systems," says RJ van Spaandonk, executive director of Core Group.
