Incredible Connection, in partnership with Altech Technology Concepts (ATC), has rolled out an application that allows customers to browse its products from their iPhones.

According to the retailer, the app lets customers view products, check their availability and purchase the products. John Beetge, group services operation manager of Incredible Connection, says most consumers using the application, however, are still going in-store to finalise purchases.

He also insists that increasing sales was not the motivation behind rolling out this application. According to Beetge, rolling out the application is Incredible Connection's way of trying to keep abreast with the latest technologies and making it easier for consumers to access its products.

Incredible iPhone

Beetge says Incredible Connection plans to roll out the application on all the other operating systems but, at the moment, it is only available on the iPhone.

ATC says the application was developed on iPhone first because it had the existing technology needed to develop for the iPhone and, in terms of the timing on the market side, the iPhone 4 had just been released.

Neither Incredible Connection nor ATC could confirm when the application would be available on the other platforms although it is in the developmental stage.

Laptop lags

Incredible Connection says 80% of the comments by users of the application have been positive. According to Beetge, the majority of the 20% of complaints that were received related to the application hanging as a result of delays.

He says these delays were caused because of the amount of laptops the retailer stocks. He explains that because the application updates every 20 minutes, the amount of that was passing through the application caused a memory leak.

Beetge adds that the application has been updated, and since the update, he has had no negative feedback.

The application is available free from the South African iTunes store.
