iPhone gets VoiceEngine
Global IP Solutions announced it has adapted its highly successful VoiceEngine Mobile technology used in Skype and other Internet-based VOIP services for Apple's second-generation iPhone, says internetnews.com.
The VoiceEngine technology will help developers of iPhone applications easily add high-quality, real-time VOIP communications to a variety of application types.
"The VoiceEngine takes a lot of the hard-to-manage components of VOIP processing-the transmission and unpacking and wraps it up in one easy-to-implement package for our customers," Dovid Coplon, GIPS' director of product management told Enterprise VoIPplanet.
Lenovo develops biometric phone
Lenovo Mobile, a China-based mobile technology developer, has recently released their P960 mobile phone which incorporates fingerprint biometrics provided by mobile device intelligent touch control developer Atrua Technologies' fingerprint sensors, says ThirdFactor.
This is Lenovo's first commercial mobile phone that makes use of the technology.
Lenovo chose the fingerprint technology from Atrua as it has been designed for mobile phones and uses much less power to perform its functions unlike most other fingerprint sensors which are adapted from technology designed for PCs.
HP to acquire Colubris
Hewlett-Packard said it plans to acquire Colubris Networks to expand HP's wireless LAN portfolio and to gain a greater presence in several vertical markets. Financial terms were not disclosed, says InformationWeek.
HP, which expects to complete the transaction by the end of October, said it would integrate Colubris' wireless technology into HP's ProCurve portfolio of switches and other networking products. Colubris products provide wireless access, management, and security, as well as 802.11n capabilities.
HP expects the acquisition to expand its reach into vertical markets, such as hospitality, transportation, health care, manufacturing, wireless service providers, and education.
