Ipico, Mondi team up

Ipico has signed an agreement with Mondi whereby Mondi will spin off its RFID division into Ipico, says Lesprom.

The RFID solutions provider has been contracted to manage and support the deployment of its paper-reel management solution and pallet solutions into Mondi's operations for a minimum three-year period.

Mondi initiated strategic programmes with the Ipico team to develop RFID-enabled packaging solutions and RFID-enabled paper roll management systems. Subsequently, Mondi successfully adopted these technologies at its March plant in the UK.

Indian university deploys 3M

3M Library Systems has been awarded a turnkey project that will provide RFID systems for the Panjab University Library in Chandigarh, reports Market Watch.

3M Library Systems will integrate and install the RFID systems, and train library staff in their use. The developer will initially supply 400 000 tags and four checkout systems, among other technologies.

The 61-year-old library contains nearly 700 000 books and audiovisual items. The university is one of India's oldest and most respected schools of higher learning, with over 9 000 students.

Railway company tags recruits

An organisation in charge of hiring workers for the railroads of southern India will use RFID technology to log the results of potential recruits' physical fitness tests, states RFID News.

India's railways ministry has given the Railway Recruitment Cell of Southern Railway permission to use RFID tags to time the physical efficiency tests of candidates for certain classes of employment on the railroad.

The tests require candidates to run 1 500 metres and 400 metres in six minutes and three minutes respectively; up to 10 000 individuals are tested over a period of up to 50 days. Officials hope RFID use will improve testing efficiency and cut down on the possibility of tampering with test results.
