iPlanet - a Sun/Netscape Alliance - has announced what it believes is the industry's most comprehensive set of commerce solutions built on an open, Java-based component architecture.
The iPlanet SellerXpert and Market Maker applications are the latest additions to the e-commerce player's services portfolio, enabling enterprises to efficiently manage online procurement, Internet selling, electronic bill presentment and payment, e-marketplaces and trade facilitation.
"Enterprises now have access to a rich set of Java-based commerce solutions that enable the automation of complex business processes," says Duncan Peruch, business development manager at iPlanet SA.
"Companies can adopt iPlanet commerce solutions knowing that they have the best of both worlds: solid robust Java applications for immediate deployment and the integrated platforms and technology roadmap that will allow them to implement broader, web services as needed in the future."
iPlanet SellerXpert is a comprehensive sell-side commerce platform for B2B and B2C selling. "It allows enterprises to use a single instance of software to handle multi-site deployment and selling channels for both their B2B and B2C customers, increasing return on investments," comments Peruch.
In addition iPlanet Market Maker allows customers to create and operate private, semi-private or public e-marketplaces. It includes an integrated set of modules for supporting forward and reverse auctions, online negotiations and catalogue aggregation as well as implementing multi-pricing models, as business needs dictate.
To further iPlanet's B2B service model and the subsequent development and deployment of web services, iPlanet has also upgraded a range of Java development tools that will significantly enhance the Sun Open Net Environment (Sun ONE) product stack.
Sun ONE is a comprehensive architecture for the development and delivery of web services across multiple IP-based networks, including web and wireless.
"Upgrades to the Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) certified Application Server 6.0 software and the upcoming availability of Forte for Java, Community Edition 3.0 developer software will present developers with the ideal tool set and supporting platform to quickly create, assemble and deploy web services," says Peruch.
"The iPlanet platform leverages the vast store of Java programming skills already present in the developer community and turns it into a significant strategic advantage in speeding time to service.
"iPlanet serves as a foundation for all web sites, providing scalability and reliability that mission critical B2B web sites require," he concludes.
