IQ Business launches public Agile bootcamps

Johannesburg, 08 Apr 2013

IQ Business has run several tailored Agile bootcamps for clients as well as internal bootcamps. Having trained over 200 delegates, IQ Business launched its first public Agile bootcamp on 23 and 24 April 2013 in Johannesburg.

The objective was to share some of the learnings obtained, with organisations that want to transform their organisation by going through the Agile journey.

Based on the excellent feedback received, IQ will be scheduling three public bootcamps for the remainder of the year - 19 and 20 June 2013, 20 and 21 August 2013, 22 and 23 October 2013.

Gartner has predicted 80% of software projects in 2012 will be developed using Agile methods. South Africa is typically two to three years behind the adoption curve but, based on the current interest, is fast becoming the approach of choice in many environments.

With the Agile approach being relatively new to the South African environment, the bootcamp content is aimed at delegates that have not been exposed to Agile/Scrum, as well as to users of Agile/Scrum where a refresher is required of the underlying values and principles. It is a perfect place for cross functional "teams" to become familiar with Agile methods and learn the basics together.

According to Biase De Gregorio, IQ Business Agile specialist, the IQ Business offering is different to traditional training providers that prefer an idealistic and theoretical approach: "Our Agile implementation consultants have experience, certification and exposure to both traditional and Agile approaches, therefore providing a more pragmatic and practical approach to implementing Agile principles and practices within teams and/or organisations. We do this by providing real examples in the adoption journey and practically applying the theory learned to their projects to extract value immediately in the bootcamps. This is achieved by preparing user stories, backlogs, working agreements etc required for the project and environment."

When asked why IQ is promoting Agile, De Gregorio had this to say: "IQ Business embarked on the Agile journey two and a half years ago, not only has our delivery from a quality and a time perspective improved, but our customer satisfaction and the ability to managing client's changing requirements has improved immensely. As Agilists, we would like to share this experience with our peers and clients to ensure they benefit from the same experience."

Geared towards enabling the project team and team members to adopt an Agile approach to their projects with a specific focus on the Scrum Framework, the bootcamp is recommended for all team members responsible for delivering project products with a specific focus on software products.
