Internet Solutions (IS) says its WiFi customers will be the first in the country to receive secure Internet access at no extra charge with the rollout of AlwaysOnSecure.

The service uses a 256-bit encryption key to connect safely to the AlwaysOnSecure WiFi network.

After trialling the service with a corporate customer, the local company is deploying the service at AlwaysOn HotSpot sites nationally. “We expect all 600 of our national AlwaysOn HotSpot sites to be AlwaysOnSecure-enabled within the next 12 months,” says Justin Spratt, HotSpot business unit manager at IS.

According to the company, customers will have to register on the AlwaysOnSecure landing page using their valid username and password. It says this will generate a unique encryption key, which can be used to connect to the AlwaysOnSecure WiFi network.

“Registration and activation is a once-off process, so once completed, customers will always connect to the AlwaysOnSecure network when it is available,” says Spratt.

“This encryption key is dynamically adjusted every few minutes, offering the highest level of available on any network, even exceeding the security capabilities offered by most wired networks,” he adds.

In future, says Spratt, customers will be able to access both the Internet and the AlwaysOnSecure network from the AlwaysOn HotSpot sites. “The Internet network is an open WiFi network that requires no network encryption key, whereas the AlwaysOnSecure network is totally by the network encryption key.”

He notes, however, that both networks are secure for credit card transactions and login credentials.

“This value-added service will ensure IS customers enjoy peace of mind with secure Internet connectivity at all AlwaysOn-enabled venues in future,” Spratt concludes.
