The Internet Solution (IS), the e-business infrastructure subsidiary of London-listed Dimension Data Holdings and South Africa`s leading Internet Service Provider (ISP) and Virtual Private Network (VPN) specialist, has enhanced its ability to offer fine tuned network services to meet customers` specific needs.
This follows the implementation of Cisco Resource Pool Manager Server (RPMS), a software solution for managing concurrent dial network services across single or multiple network access servers.
"RPMS will play a major role in ensuring we deliver to our service level agreements as well as help us tailor our services to individual customer needs," says Glenda Beukman, general manager: dial services at IS.
IS will be able to monitor data usage across multiple customers` modems and ensure that contracted maximum availability is delivered.
"With RPMS, customers can be assured that if, for example, we commit to supporting 100 concurrent users, they will get it, because we`re able to monitor usage in real-time," she explains.
As important is the ability to leverage the system`s reporting features to offer advanced wholesale services to consumers, enterprise customers and ISPs concurrently. RPMS can manage these same data network resources across multiple network access server stacks.
IS can also leverage the system`s sophisticated accounting and resource management functionality including call management prior to calls being answered, which optimises the use of expensive network resources.
Using RPMS`s accounting functionality enables IS to track call by customer profile so that appropriate action can be taken should they exceed their contracted limits.
"For example, we can track a customer`s resource usage pattern in real time. With this insight, we can then offer that customer fine-tuned services tailored to meet his specific needs.
"RPMS is an ideal tool for large service providers such as IS managing several servers in multiple locations. It incorporates robust network management functionality such as server-based administration for centralised management of resource usage and service provisioning," Beukman adds.
