By virtue of the recent acquisition by Rimage of Cedar Technologies - both manufacturers of CD-R desktop publishing and duplication equipment - local Rimage representative and specialist distributor in the Siltek Information Technology Supply Chain, Intelligent Systems (IS), has dramatically extended its range of CD Duplication products.
Gerrit de la Rey, product manager at IS, believes this development positions the company as the leading supplier of CD Duplication hardware and software products in the country. "The Rimage line is extensive on its own but adding Cedar Technologies` range to it expands the market for these products significantly," he says.
Where Rimage products are pitched predominately at the corporate market and well-suited to industrial application in a print shop environment, for example, De la Rey describes Cedar`s line as bringing affordable CD production and network convenience to the small-to-medium (SME) business sector, thereby extending the appeal of the technology.
"Cedar Network Publisher products are small enough to fit on a desktop but powerful enough to handle CD production for an entire company," he says. As with most hardware products these days, the Cedar line ships with added value in the form of software - CedarNet software allows users across an organisation to download images and data to a single CD production station.
"These products are compatible with Windows 95/98 and NT, and can print up to 50 CDs automatically - including silkscreen-quality labelling in unattended operation," explains De la Rey.
Available in three basic models, the 1000, 4000 and 8000, these products feature two, four and eight CD-R drives respectively and offer varying CD capacities - from 50 discs at the low end and up to 330 on the high-end 8000. "The most impressive characteristic of this range is the small footprint, even of the top-of-the-range, making it a true desktop CD publishing solution."
