Web site and e-mail service now hosted by IS
Business Against Crime SA is a non-profit organisation founded by business in response to a call by former President Mandela in 1996 for business to collaborate with government in the fight against crime.
Business Against Crime SA uses its Web site to not only attract donors and sponsors but to inform and communicate with its stakeholders. Internet Solutions (IS), a leading converged communications service provider, is sponsoring the hosting of its Web site, a 64k Internet access line as well as an e-mail system.
The present Business Against Crime SA projects include:
The Criminal Justice Strengthening Programme
The Tiisa Thuto programme which teaches non-violent methods of conflict resolution and positive morality in schools to reduce crime and violence
The Support Programme for Police Stations
The Organised Crime programme - The current focus is on vehicle theft, hijacking, cellphone theft, computer theft as well as the theft of copper cable.
The Commercial Crime (including fraud and corruption) programme
The reforming of the Department of Justice, which has been re-organised into functional business units.
