Internet Solutions (IS), a leading converged communications services provider, and IS subsidiary, LayerOne, the African distributor for Nokia`s Intellisync products, have rolled out the largest mobile e-mail deal in Africa on behalf of the South African office of global accounting and advisory firm KPMG.
This implementation enables more than 2 000 of KPMG`s professional employees to connect to e-mail and access corporate information from anywhere, at anytime.
Phil Hartridge, associate director at KPMG responsible for developing and deploying this key initiative, says: "KPMG has the reputation of continually delivering value for the benefit of our clients and communities and, as such, we are frequently looking at improvements to structures to maintain this leading industry position. Developing our processes to enable employees improved connectivity and availability is just one of these improvements, and will enable enhanced customer communication.
"In addition to e-mail access, our staff will also be able to access a wealth of key applications, all of which are bandwidth friendly, to limit congestion and ensure continued efficiency," adds Hartridge. "Also, the mobile data solution implementation is a key portion of our `employer of choice` strategy, as it removes the need for staff to regularly have to return to base to check e-mail or submit time and expense claims."
"The mobile e-mail solution is driven through a MTN APN supplied by IS," says Paul Schonborn, manager, Mobile Solutions at IS. "The connection was a fundamental aspect of the deal, as it allows KPMG to use the Edge network from MTN. This network delivers solid bandwidth speed and is available over the widest area in South Africa, as well as a GPRS fall back, covering the whole of the country."
"The wireless e-mail solution automatically retrieves new e-mails for users to their laptop or mobile devices and reduces the cost of using GPRS by providing compression of 12:1," says LayerOne`s MD Stuart Hardy.
