IS receives Cisco award

Johannesburg, 14 Jan 2002

South Africa`s largest provider of corporate Internet connectivity has won a prestigious award from networking giant Cisco for a security solution it designed.

Internet Solutions (IS), received the Cisco Business and Technology Innovation Award and trophy for its ability to deliver low cost, world-class outsourced firewalls based on Cisco`s market leading Pix hardware-based firewall.

As the number of virus and hacker attacks on computer networks increases, so companies are looking for more effective ways to protect their data.

"We designed a solution based on the Pix hardware firewall which includes reporting, URL filtering, a hosted DMZ and basic intrusion detection," says Marius Swart, GM, security solutions, at IS.

"We run these services on behalf of our clients and they are constantly monitored for uptime around the clock," he says. The Pix firewall series is in the number-one position in the standalone firewall market through a combination of its industry-leading performance (as shown by Key Labs Firebench testing) and its unique position as one of the key elements in Cisco end-to-end security services.

The Firewall series delivers high security without affecting network performance and can be scaled to meet the entire range of customer requirements.

Although the PIX 520 is the undisputed leader in high-end perimeter security, the advent of virtual private networks (VPNs) and increasing numbers of small and medium-sized businesses into the Internet marketplace has expanded the demands of the firewall market. More organisations today require powerful firewall features affordably priced for global VPN implementations, for distribution to regional branches, or for small to medium-sized businesses looking for security on a budget. The Cisco Business and Technology Innovation Award was presented to IS at the Cisco Africa Conference at Sun City recently.
