IST Telecom, a division of IST Group, announced today a distributor agreement with Redback Networks, Inc, a leading provider of advanced networking solutions, and Advanced Fibre Communications. Inc. (AFC) a leader in multi-service access solutions for the telecommunications industry, to provide ADSL services to South Africa. The combined product offering of AFC`s v7.1 UMC1000 Multi-Service Access Platform (MSAP) and Redback`s Subscriber Management System offers telephone companies complete end-to-end ADSL service.
The Redback SMS enables quick provisioning of the ADSL subscribers with the ability to offer enhanced services over ADSL, and aggregates the ADSL circuits into the IP network. Redback Networks develops, manufactures, markets and supports advanced communication systems that solve the deployment dilemma associated broadband access technologies like digital subscriber line (DSL),cable modems and fixed wireless.
Comments Joop van Aard, Redback Network`s vice president of operations for Europe, Middle East and Africa: "Redback`s subscriber management solutions are already deployed by approximately 150 service providers worldwide. We expect this experience to be leveraged by our partners to help speed the deployment of broadband services in the South Africa, which will help the country to compete in global markets."
The UMC1000 MSAP offers speed-to-market advantages that are highly desired by customers in local access markets. The platform utilizes a hybrid ATM/TDM architecture, which provides a variety of loop interfaces for POTS, ISDN, T-1/E-1, HDSL and ADSL services over various feeder transmission technologies, including copper, fiber and wireless. The unique three-bus architecture includes a TDM bus, a cell bus, and a high-speed serial bus, enabling simultaneous interworking with TDM, Frame Relay, SONET, and ATM network architectures.
"We have successfully distributed AFC`s UMC1000 MSAP for the past five years in Southern Africa`s network infrastructure, said Hannes Visagie, managing director for IST Telecom. "It`s a cost-effective multi-service access solution that easily provides more POTS services as needed and will accommodate South Africa`s migration to broadband."
The extensive roll out of the UMC1000 in the South African telecommunications network will be expanded with this partnership between Redback`s subscriber management system, AFC`s UMC1000 MSAP, and IST Telecom`s support and expertise in the local market.
"This new agreement allows IST Telecom to provide a total service to the South African telecommunications industry in terms of access network and digital subscriber management," said Bob Yates, vice president of international sales for AFC.
