IT-based manufacturing systems survey released
A survey to better understand how manufacturing and production facilities worldwide are managing and planning for manufacturing IT has been released by the ARC Advisory Group.
The survey "shows there is still a difference in opinion as to the progress being made in managing IT-based manufacturing systems (MIT)," say VP of ARC, Dick Hill.
The survey investigates the differences between corporate / business IT (CIT) and MIT, and invited participation from both suppliers and end-users.
ERP renewal: consider the alternatives
Investing in a new ERP system is not the only answer to replacing an old ERP system that no longer delivers the required service, reports TheManufacturer.com.
The article states that system integration consultants emphasise the need for value stream mapping and an assessment of how heavily modified the system has been, before taking the plunge into ERP renewal or upgrade.

IT in manufacturing 2006 spend predictions
TheManufacturer.com looks at how the economic upturn, coupled with a push toward multinational thinking, will affect IT in manufacturing in the coming year.
The IT spend is going to rise steadily, says the report, based on AMR Research conducted among all companies having more than 500 employees in the major vertical industries.
"Some 46% of those companies expected to increase their IT budgets in 2006, while 14% anticipated decreasing them," notes the survey.
