IT giant arivia.kom connects with Novell

Johannesburg, 06 Nov 2001

IT giant arivia.kom has been appointed as the only company in SA licensed to provide a support centre for Novell products in this country and therefore will be able to offer the Novell five-level Premium Service programme.

Speaking at a function in Sandton recently, executive manager of Infrastructure Business at arivia.kom, Zeph Serepo, said arivia.kom, as a totally integrated business solutions provider, was fully geared to undertake this task. Furthermore, it already had a firmly established relationship and track record with Novell, a leading provider of Net services software.

The Eskom Novell NDS-based tree was created in mid-1996. Initially, there were 13 000 users but today there are about 23 500 users. The Eskom Groupwise system consists of 40 domains, 199 post offices, seven Internet gateways and six Web accesses. The products installed at Eskom include NDS-EDIR, GroupWise, Border Manager, DNS/DHCP and ZEN for Desktops and for servers.

Says Serepo: "We already have a very large Novell support base with a high level of skills in about 11 centres ranging from Pietersburg to Cape Town.

"Our levels of skills are impressive with 80% of all staff currently working on Novell either as CNEs or MCNEs. Those without these qualifications have a minimum of five years in-depth, hands-on experience with all Novell products.

"With branches across SA, customers can rest assured that support is always close at hand."

Serepo said that in choosing a Southern African partner, Novell had come to the right place. "We have the experience, the skills, the infrastructure capability and the national presence to take Novell to new heights not only in SA, but beyond our borders.

"A further benefit is arivia.kom`s ability to deliver IT and business solutions to a wide range of industries and market sectors. Areas where it is already active include transportation, electricity, logistics, the financial sector, utilities, healthcare and government."

In order to be a competitive player in the local, regional and global IT market, arivia.kom has focused its strategy on three core areas - leveraging its significant capability and scale in the IT infrastructure market, packaging its niche capability in focused IT business solutions and initiating an e-Ventures business to support its longer term growth strategy. In line with this strategy, the company has been divided into three lines of business - Infrastructure Business, Focused Business Solutions and e-Ventures.

To assist arivia.kom to provide totally integrated business solutions, arivia.kom partners with organisations that are best suited to fulfil client needs and deliver the most appropriate solutions.

The Infrastructure Business Division, headed up by Serepo, has 1 100 skilled professionals with the expertise to deliver end-to-end infrastructure solutions.
