As information technology becomes increasingly important to the South African economy, the Information Technology Association (ITA) has anticipated a changing world by announcing its new Channel Division, an initiative that will work towards strengthening the economy.
According to Teryl Schroenn, ITA president, the Channel Division will play a leading and driving role in self-regulation by, among others, improving ethics and standards throughout the channel. "Additionally, the Channel Division will strive to reduce loss from fraud, piracy, tax evasion, and also assist in business skills enhancement, improve customer satisfaction - hereby raising the image of the IT industry."
"The positive input we received from companies such as Westcon, Arrow Altech, Microsoft and Acer, to name a few, convinced us that a Channel Division will enable the ITA to add real value to businesses and assist resellers in growing their businesses," Shroenn continues.
The ITA represents over 250 companies including all the top names concerned with the supply of information technology equipment, systems, software and services nation-wide. The ITA operates through an elected Executive Council and many specialist sector divisions, special interest groups and task groups.
The association works in close liaison with government, consumer, and other specialist organisations. Membership to the ITA projects an image of scrupulous integrity. ITA members work together to positively influence decision-makers in terms of IT business operation in SA, and it strives to stamp out business practices that are harmful to the consumer.
"The association has a longstanding commitment to human resource development in the industry. Through its close association with bodies like the ISETT, SETA, SGB, ETQF and NQF, the ITA promotes the maintenance of the highest standards of IT industry technical skills in line with international trends," Shroenn adds.
She concludes: "The issues affecting every business can be different. The ITA provides the platform to address such issues. Bringing all issues into the open result in an achievement to the benefit of the IT industry as a whole."
