The Information Technology Association (ITA) has introduced its first networking qualification based on three core networking courses presented by Duxbury Networking.
The courses cover the most important aspects of networking and prepare students to write the ITA`s independent examination to qualify as an ITA Duxbury Certified Engineer, explained Duxbury MD Graham Duxbury. He was speaking at the announcement of the certification at the ITA offices in Randburg last night.
"The future of this country is based on education - it`s as simple as that," said Duxbury. "The three courses that make up the qualification provide the greatest opportunity for graduates to further themselves in the field of networking, and the ITA gives credibility to the qualification."
The importance of IT education is indisputable, agreed ITA president and MD of Microsoft SA Gordon Frazer. He said the lack of skills development was the biggest single barrier to success in the IT industry in SA with thousands of jobs remaining unfilled.
"Developing the right kind of skills in networking and ICT-related skills through certification programmes is critical to developing the skills base in the country," said Frazer.
The ITA is the official trade and employer body of the IT industry in SA and includes the Information Technology Users Council (ITUC), which was formed 25 years ago to ensure alignment between skills training courses and business requirements.
The ITUC guarantees the authenticity and credibility of an examination process. The ITA Duxbury Certified Engineer exam will be administered by the ITA and will be completely independent of the Duxbury training division, Duxbury said.
The first ITA Duxbury Certified Engineer exam is scheduled to take place on 6 March.
