ITC signs up for CONNECT:Direct contract with Datacentrix

Johannesburg, 21 Aug 2002

In line with its continued drive to be at the cutting-edge of technology, the Information Trust Corporation (ITC) has opted for a three-year renewable contract for Sterling Commerce`s CONNECT:Direct solution through Datacentrix, exclusive South African Sterling Commerce partner.

"As a sought-after information provider, ITC`s synchronisation of information from customers into a central database is crucial," explains Carl Vorster, consultant manager at Datacentrix. "Previously, customers - which include retail chains and larger financial institutions - would save their information on either a CD or tape and deliver it to ITC, who then had to download the data onto its system for processing."

"ITC recently investigated the best options for the fastest, most technologically apt way in which to speed up the time to the database," adds Deman Marx, account manager at Datacentrix. "Key considerations were time, security and accuracy."

The solution designed for ITC encompasses the use of RemoteWare to allow clients to upload information to the central point of ITC`s NT system. From here, in a fully automated process, CONNECT:Direct deals with the three to four million transactions ITC handles on a monthly basis and gets this huge volume of data to the OS390 database. The new system will ensure that the maximum time of data to the database is one day, which will allow ITC to provide the most up-to-date information on both consumers and businesses.

"A number of our clients, including African Bank, Standard Bank and the Edcon Group, also make use of CONNECT:Direct," says ITC IT director, Charles le Roux. "This factor, as well as the proven reliability of the product made our decision an easy one."

ITC`s agreement with Datacentrix includes provision for expansion, as well as all maintenance and support over the three-year period.
