Itec's product marketing manager, Holger Groenert, says that, as an importer of Konica Minolta, Ericsson, OKI and sub-distributor of Samsung technologies, "Itec has the advantage of our suppliers having moved very quickly to develop and deliver drivers and other tools that will ease the transition of their equipment to Windows Vista.
"In other words, we're not having to develop transition capabilities from scratch. Most of the work has been done for us - by specialists in our products.
"By the same token, because we have very close services relationships with all our customers and are therefore familiar with their office automation environments, we're well positioned to apply the knowledge we're given by our suppliers to customer environments in the most appropriate, efficient and cost-effective way."
Groenert recommends strongly that organisations do take advice on migrating their office automation devices to Windows Vista. "There's a danger that if you and your IT division don't consult with your office automation providers, you could end up running two separate operating systems - doubling the cost of the maintenance and management of all your technologies and risking non-integration of systems that will cost you downtime, lost data, and a significant fall-off in organisational performance.
"There's no one way of getting the move to Windows Vista right, because there are different versions of Vista and each individual office automation device will connect to Vista in different ways, depending on the age and functionality of the device.
"Office automation providers will have to assess each environment on its own merits and devise a suitable migration plan. Best, therefore, to include your providers as early as possible in your own plans to move to Vista."
