Itec offers alternative to light production colour market

Johannesburg, 05 Apr 2007

As a result of being granted original equipment manufacturer rights by Konica Minolta and therefore able to sell Konica Minolta's new colour 65-page per minute production print system, the PRO C6500, under its own label, Itec SA can now offer print production and graphics companies an alternative source of high-speed, quick-turnaround equipment.

"In fact, the new PRO C6500 takes this type of printing to a new level because it can, among other advantages, produce booklets up to 200 pages - and glue bind documents with thicknesses of up to 30mms," says Itec's Manager Product Marketing, Holger Groenert.

"More importantly, perhaps, the machine is backed by expertise here at Itec that has been specially honed during the past two years for precisely this kind of application and this kind of market.

"Itec has become the third largest organisation implementing colour multifunctional systems and have extensive, in-depth experience in providing the services for them. In other words, we're not just selling the boxes. We consult on how best to implement them to create efficiency and profit differentiations for our customers.

"Now, with the launch of the PRO C6500, we can also offer the most advanced machine on the market. All of which gives South African printing and graphics companies better and more cost-effective options than they've had before."

The PRO C6500 is designed for commercial print businesses handling short run on-demand jobs, offering exceptional large paper and output capacities for automated long-run operation, the ability to run diverse substrates, thorough finishing capabilities, reliability and durability.

The PRO C6500 features a number of hardware and software innovations working together to produce extremely high image quality. Smoothing technology, for instance, achieves 1 800dpi (equivalent) x 600dpi output quality, while an exclusive algorithm used with the ASIC (Application-Specific Integrated Circuit) enables fine text reproduction. A high level of registration accuracy comes from a combination of a newly developed metal-body ADU (automatic duplex unit), improved image alignment sensors, the image shift function (enabling fine adjustments to be made to image position) and the ability to make precise adjustments to magnification. The PRO C6500 features optical sensors that monitor the transfer belt and automatically correct misalignment between colours. Toner density is also monitored, and instructions to adjust laser strength and screen gradation ensure stable image quality without colour aberration.

The PRO C6500 also marks the introduction of new Simitri HD polymerised toner which reproduces fine lines and characters more clearly than conventional toner.

A highly rigid frame provides excellent durability to protect the chassis from the twisting effects of the internal mechanisms and vibration. And with long-lasting consumables, the PRO C6500 also offers exceptional cost performance.

Paper sizes up to 330 x 487mm and weights from 64 - 300g/m 2 are all supported. The PRO C6500 also improves the reliability of heavy and coated stock paper feeding through a newly developed belt-type fixing unit and an air-assisted paper-feeding mechanism that separates sheets.

To meet the requirements of many job types, the C6500 can be equipped with a powerful combination of optional inline finishers. A multi-folding unit offers six folding patterns, along with hole-punching and paper insertion functions. Folding, stapling and trimming pages to create professional booklets, is a fully automated process.

With 1GB of memory, the optional capacity of 160GB HDD and 136 pre-installed Adobe PostScript fonts, the C6500 can easily handle graphic-heavy printing.
