More than just technology
What is the meaning of information? What is its purpose? The Open Group's Allen Brown says in a C-Net column that the technological revolution gave us information, but now that information needs to get to the right people at the right time.
That can only happen if the architecture of the organisation is designed to accommodate information flow across technical boundaries - and that it needs an expert designer to make it happen.
Enterprise architects are rare, and neutral - as well as accredited - certification is key to growing the number of professional enterprise architects, he says.
Cisco survey shows Fed's EA lacking
Enterprise Architecture news reports on a Cisco survey of 155 US Federal agencies' enterprise architecture plans. The survey shows that the majority (61%) said their "modernisation blueprints are not optimal for growth," with 7% saying their EA is "not optimal for their agency's current mission." A third said their plans are "good enough for now and the future."
Responding agencies said that security would benefit the most from correct EA use followed by shared services and collaboration.
SAS helps Brit firms with freer market regs
New rules are coming to EU financial markets next year, and their implementation will significantly alter financial services regulation in the UK.
The MfiD directive will allow companies to provide services across borders and establish branches in other European states. It also does away with the idea that all share trading has to be done through exchanges.
Andr Zitzke, solutions specialist at SAS SA, says the company offers specific banking solutions and an enterprise intelligence platform which enable firms to meet requirements for client classification, trade transparency, and aggregate information to support execution and client reporting.
