It`s always better on the big screen

Johannesburg, 12 Jun 2003

Artec Computer Systems today announced that Ster-Kinekor had chosen the company for the deployment of Windows Server 2003 including Active Directory within the organisation, during the pre-announcement implementation phase for this product by Microsoft SA.

"We were very impressed with the ease of deployment of Windows Server 2003," commented Francois Combrink, IT/IS Manager at Ster-Kinekor. "With extensive planning by our partner, Artec, one of the handful of companies chosen by Microsoft worldwide for these implementations prior to its formal announcement, we were able to perform this upgrade with very little impact on our day to day business. We were also impressed at the granularity with which we were able to manage desktop computers using the Group Policy tool."

"Ster-Kinekor found themselves in a situation where, because of the complexity of their domain structure along with the dispersed locations of their desktop PCs, their IT support staff were no longer able to proactively maintain the corporate network. Instead they were only able to react to issues in the field as and when they occurred," added Andrew Tucker, CEO of Artec Computer Systems.

"We needed to provide Ster-Kinekor with a solution that would co-ordinate the entire network infrastructure from a central management point using a common set of management tools. It was therefore prudent for us to work with them as one of the early Windows Server 2003 product installations, rather than deploy Windows server 2000 and upgrade at a later stage."

Artec was one of only two SA companies to be selected to participate in this Rapid Deployment Program, and thus it involved training being undertaken at Microsoft`s HQ in Redmond, Washington, USA.

"This additional status for Artec complements the many we already enjoy with Microsoft," concluded Tucker. "We are already a Microsoft associate consultant company for Africa, a Microsoft Licensing Management Program (MLMP) partner, a Microsoft ASP partner, and a Microsoft Certified Partner."
