ITWeb conference around the corner

ITWeb Technology Roadmaps 2008 is almost upon us. The conference aims to shed light on the future of technology within the next five years and its impact on businesses.

The one-day conference is open to all IT professionals, vendors, CIOs and CEOs to assist them to plan for tomorrow's technology today. The event will be held on 9 December at The Forum, Bryanston. According to Ivo Vegter, conference programme director, the event will assist companies to understand emerging technologies and the importance of having the best business strategies in place to deal with them.

ITWeb's group senior writer Paul Furber will deliver a keynote address on the future of computing and Simon Dingle, technology journalist, will chair the event.

Lindsey Mc Donald, Frost & Sullivan analyst, is one of the key speakers at the event and will discuss what companies can expect and how they should prepare their businesses for the near-term future.

“Africa is a continent of contradictions; it's rich in mineral wealth yet it struggles with poverty. It has huge potential for growth. Innovative technologies and applications are being deployed and ICT is the key market that's driving the continent into the future.”

Other key speakers include Stafford Masie, country manager for Google SA, who will discuss how the is redefining how we interact with information, how we relate to one another, and how we do business, and Roy Padayachie, deputy communications minister, who will speak about the prospects for various undersea cables, the potential for infrastructure rollouts by new entrants and the legacy of 2010, and what they will mean for access, availability and pricing of services.

Clifford Foster, CTO for IBM Sub-Saharan Africa, will look at technology trends that could be disruptive or the harbingers of change. Andr'e Roux, MD of SMSWEB, will present a case study on how South African schools are achieving massive social benefits by embracing mobile and Web technology, while Stuart McGregor, CEO of RealIRM, will talk on how today's trends will connect to the standards of the future.
