Ixchange adds to Cape HEAT impetus with signing of AlterNET

Johannesburg, 25 May 1999

Following on the announcement of Ndizani as its first HEAT VAR in the Cape, JSE-listed Ixchange has added local IT consulting and support company AlterNET to its Cape customer community.

AlterNET services the SME market, specialising in Wintel platform solutions. It is certified by some of the industry`s leading vendors, including Citrix, Cisco, Microsoft, Novell and Hewlett-Packard.

"HEAT is our measurement tool, driving every support-related query in the company," says AlterNET MD Charles Page. "With HEAT we have our finger on the pulse of job-related performance, fault recurrence and client spending trends, helping us continually shape our service to fit our clients` needs."

Page says AlterNET is in the business of selling the value of IT to its clients, lowering the TCO associated with poor IT implementations.

"The SME client hasn`t got the corporate budget to install and maintain a full-spec helpdesk application," he adds. "That`s where we come in, offering through HEAT advanced helpdesk services as part of the deal."

AlterNET has taken HEAT`s shrink-wrapped features and extended them with plug-ins to incorporate its own requirements, such as financial tracking and growth projections.

"Buying a PC is only a small fraction of the cost of an IT strategy," says Page. "With HEAT we`ve been able to pass on the benefits from our own customisation to our clients, helping them project business growth, outsource support functions and measure performance for their own businesses."

Ixchange SMS account manager Duncan Wierman says the growth of the industry is in the SME market, and that`s exactly where AlterNET is focused.

"Most companies are aiming their targets at the large financial companies and corporations, leaving SMEs vulnerable," says Wierman. "We firmly believe this is a growth point of the industry, and together with AlterNET hope to raise the levels of service it enjoys."

"The success of HEAT in the broader South African and global markets is now being mirrored in the Cape," says Ixchange Cape Town regional manager Stanton Jandrell. "We fully expect HEAT to become the major helpdesk product in the Cape."
