Izane Cloete to leave LUSO

Johannesburg, 08 Apr 2004

Izane Cloete, MD of LUSO Computer Institute, will leave the company at the end of the first quarter to pursue her own career interests.

Cloete joined LUSO as marketing director in April 2003, when IT veteran Marinus van Sandwyk bought the programming training company from founders Rui de Oliveira and Jeanne Jollivet. Cloete`s primary goal was to redevelop the company`s corporate image and define its strategic messaging. She was later promoted to MD.

"My role at LUSO can be likened to that of a consultant," says Cloete. "A year down the line, I feel that my job there is done. What remains is to maintain the strategies that have been put in place and that have seen the company flourish. I am now looking forward to pursuing fresh new challenges in the marketing arena."

Cloete has spent almost 10 years in the IT sector. She completed an honours equivalent marketing degree at Potchefstroom University and then joined IBM for a period of five years. Building on her experience in channel management, Cloete then joined Compaq, subsequently moving from there to MB Worksoft where she was a senior account manager. After being headhunted, she moved to Westcon as its 3Com business development manager. Early in 2003 she was again headhunted to join LUSO.

Cloete is not looking to move out of the IT sector, but says she is keen to go into event co-ordination.

"My experience at LUSO has been immensely positive," she says. "Having worked only in very corporate environments where individual survival is paramount, it was refreshing to become part of an organisation where people display deep commitment to the company and are supportive of one another. I`m looking forward to taking that SME experience and applying it in a new environment."
