Local solutions provider, J2 Software, has signed a partnership deal with Mimecast, following its business strategy to expand into Africa.

According to John McLoughlin, CEO of J2 Software, the company experienced year-on-year revenue growth in excess of 500%, putting the company in good stead to follow its plans to open offices in Cape Town.

McLoughlin says the last few months have been the most rewarding for J2 Software and it is now well-positioned to expand its product line to Kenya, Namibia, Botswana, Mozambique and even Zimbabwe.

“For this year, our biggest drive is going into growth, and that comes from expanding and looking at new products to bring to market. We want to expand into national offices to have a much bigger presence.”

Protect your PC

McLoughlin claims that J2's success is attributed to the increased demand in the SystemSkan products as well as the T3 Key. He says T3 is an ignition key that plugs into the USB drive of a PC or laptop and prevents unauthorised access, working similarly to a car or house key.

The solution provides instant lockdown and global theft cover of up to R12 000 should the PC get stolen. According to McLoughlin, passwords can be hacked and the T3 adds another layer of protection against data leakage. In addition, the solution allows users to create virtual vaults which encrypt confidential information as well as tracking.

Tough times

According to McLoughlin, governance, risk and compliance legislation fuelled by the economic crisis is forcing companies to rethink their business strategies and make sure their data is protected and operating costs are maintained. “There's no doubt that times are getting tougher and we're seeing more companies taking the necessary steps to protect their information and networks.”

J2 Software currently has 10 employees and six active resellers. McLoughlin says the next move for J2 is going into the education space by delivering solutions to monitor and control information access in schools and educational institutions. J2 will be showcasing the T3 Security Key at the Digital Life Expo 2009 at the Sandton Convention Centre this weekend.
