Japan pushes TV standard

Representatives from the Japanese government are persuading the Philippines to adopt the Japanese digital television standard, stating that their government is willing to provide technical and financial support for the Philippines, reports Business World Online.

"We are planning to have meetings with government and broadcasters to raise awareness of the comparative benefits of our technology. We are ready to cooperate by sharing technical expertise as well as financial support," says Hideo Fuseda, director of the broadcasting technology division of Japan's Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.

Aside from the Integrated Services Digital Broadcasting Terrestrial system of the Japanese, the National Telecommunications Commission is also considering the European Digital Video Broadcast platform.

3D comes to life

International Datacasting demonstrated its SuperFlex Pro Cinema 3D Live Encoder and Decoder, powered with Sensio 3D technology, at the recent Sat Expo Europe 2009 international conference in Rome, says msnbc.

The demonstrations included a simultaneous 3D broadcast of a live jazz performance over the satellite in a digital cinema configuration as well as broadcast and display on a commercially available consumer 3D television, demonstrating the technology for the direct-to-home market.

Edward DiCarlo, IDC's VP for sales and marketing, says: "This product line is a great addition to our digital cinema solutions portfolio, helping us add new revenues for digital cinema operators in this emerging market.”

TTP showcases mobile digital TV

The Technology Partnership (TTP) has developed platforms and technology to help broadcasters, cellular carriers and accessory brands capitalise on the new mobile-specific digital TV (DTV) transmissions, says Cloud Computing Journal.

TTP has developed technology to enable interactive digital and TV broadcasts on existing cellphones and has already approached broadcasters, brands and cellular carriers in Europe and China who are interested in delivering products and services in 2009.

Having extended the technology to cover the US standard broadcasts, TTP now offers its expertise to accessory and consumer electronics brands and cellular carriers planning to capitalise on the new broadcast for mobile DTV channels for 22 major US cities.
