Japan screens sharper HD TV
A concert in Britain has been broadcast in Japan in the first test of a transmission 16 times sharper than HD TV, reports UPI.
The show by The Charlatans was sent to Japan via 'Super hi-vision TV', which was developed by Japanese public broadcaster NHK, BBC reports.
The standard could be used on giant public viewing screens, some of which may be in place for the 2012 Olympics in London, says the company.
MTV Canada reprimanded
MTV Canada has received a slap on the wrist from the country's broadcast regulator over its cable ratings sensation 'Jersey Shore', states Toronto Sun.
The Canadian Radio, Television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) wants to know what The Situation, and other US-originated MTV shows have to do with MTV Canada's original programming mandate to operate an all-talk format.
“After a review of your broadcast schedule, it would appear that several of your programmes are not consistent with your nature of service, such as Jersey Shore, Cribs, Downtown Girls and Teen Mom,” the regulator told MTV Canada's parent CTVglobemedia,
Sky kicks off 3D broadcast
Sky has begun broadcasting 3D content on the subscription satellite service starting with the Ryder Cup, writes PCR.
While the Sky 3D channel, which is only available to subscribers of the Sky+ HD, has been broadcasting marketing promos for much of the year, the firm has now released a schedule and added on demand 3D movies.
"I think, for the viewer, this actually brings them the closest you can possibly bring a viewer unless he's there," commentator Ewan Murray told Sky News.
