J.D. Edwards and Ariba join forces for delivering enterprise e-commerce solution

J.D. Edwards & Company and Ariba, Inc. today announced a strategic alliance in which J.D. Edwards will integrate and resell Ariba( business-to-business electronic commerce solutions with OneWorld, the network-centric enterprise business software from J.D. Edwards. The partnership is part of J.D. Edwards` overall E-Business solution, which the company will detail this week at Focus `99, its international customer conference. This agreement marks the first reseller partnership between a leading e-commerce solutions provider and one of the most established enterprise business software providers.

Under the agreement, J.D. Edwards will integrate OneWorld with a specifically engineered version of Ariba Operating Resource Management System (Ariba ORMS) and with Ariba.com Network. The combined solution will provide the opportunity for customers to leverage the power of e-commerce, giving them control over rapid change so they can put their ideas into action quickly. The enhanced version of OneWorld, including Ariba e-commerce solutions, will improve customers` ability to manage their internal business operations and to take advantage of business-to-business e-commerce for rapid and efficient transactions with suppliers, reducing the time and costs for purchasing operating goods and services.

The integration of Ariba ORMS and Ariba.com Network with OneWorld extends J.D. Edwards` own procurement system. Ariba`s additional functionality, including a graphical, wizard-driven user interface and workflow-driven system, will enable end-users to easily acquire and manage operating resources, the goods and services required to run a business. By empowering end-users with easy-to-use applications, procurement professionals can focus their resources on analyzing trends, managing supplier relationships, executing strategic sourcing programs, and improving efficiency throughout the entire purchasing system.

The strategic alliance will also provide J.D. Edwards` global customer base with access to Ariba.com Network, a standards-based Internet service that connects buyers and suppliers worldwide. Now, in addition to Ariba clients, including Chevron, Cisco Systems, FedEx, General Motors, Philips, U S WEST, and Visa, all J.D. Edwards OneWorld clients will have the ability to conduct business-to-business e-commerce transactions with their suppliers through Ariba.com Network. To speed implementation of the new combined product, J.D. Edwards professional services organization will adopt and be trained in AribaLive Implementation Methodology to aid in integrating Ariba e-commerce solutions with clients` business operations. This combination of OneWorld, Ariba ORMS, Ariba.com Network, and AribaLive Implementation Methodology will provide a comprehensive solution for automating and streamlining the traditionally paper-intensive processes for acquiring and managing operating resources and speeding time to ROI.
