JD Edwards has developed a supply chain application for manufacturing- and distribution-centric companies, designed to simplify the implementation process and deliver a faster and higher return on investment for supply chain management projects.
JD Edwards Supply Chain Business Modeler (SCBM) consolidates data across disparate business applications into a single data warehouse and helps companies connect business processes throughout the supply chain. This leads to lower total cost of ownership via increased application connectivity and reduced implementation time associated with integration.
Serving as a single repository for all supply chain management data, JD Edwards SCBM automatically manages data shared by planning, order management, multi-mode manufacturing and logistics applications. SCBM simplifies the implementation process and enables companies to make better use of information generated throughout the supply chain. SCBM and JD Edwards Demand Forecasting are integral parts of the new JD Edwards 5 supply chain functionality planned for 2003.
Dave Macdonald, national solutions consulting manager of JD Edwards in South Africa, says: "Providing supply chain integration between JD Edwards enterprise systems and other applications is an important part of our value proposition to customers. Supply chains are diverse and dynamic systems, so SCBM was developed to support rapid and modular implementations while providing low, long-term cost of ownership. SCBM provides a single view of all supply chain information, including customer and supplier data from disparate systems."
SCBM and JD Edwards` Distributed Object Messaging Architecture (DOMA) will serve as the foundation to support multi-enterprise supply chain event management processes. SCBM will also support corporate performance management by providing key performance indicators (KPIs) and key performance predictors (KPPs) across the extended supply chain.
According to analyst Dwight Klappich of Meta Group: "Flexible applications are essential for companies eager to minimise implementation length and the cost of customisation and integration between different supply chain systems. The seamless integration and support of business intelligence applications, including KPIs and KPPs, will become major factors in the equation of increasing ROI while reducing costs."
