JDO Genie 1.2 released by Hemisphere Technologies

Johannesburg, 21 Feb 2003

Hemisphere Technologies, an independent software vendor specialising in Java and related technologies, announced today that it hasreleased JDO Genie 1.2, a JDO-compliant object relational mapping tool, for general availability.

JDO Genie provides dramatic improvements in developer productivity (typically at least 30%) and performance gains compared to traditional approaches to persistence for Java applications. JDO Genie makes full use of JDBC features such as statement caching and batching and has advanced SQL generation options. JDO Genie`s support for distributed operation is unique.

JDO Genie is compliant with the JDO 1.0 standard for transparent persistence for Java. JDO provides a developer-friendly API for object storage that can be implemented very efficiently using JDBC and relational databases. JDO removes the vendor lock-in and risk associated with proprietary object relational mapping tools.

JDO Genie provides a powerful GUI workbench for easy mapping to legacy database schemas. There is no need to edit JDO XML meta data by hand. The Workbench also provides real-time remote monitoring of JDO Genie servers for performance analysis by developers and DBAs.

Pricing and availability

JDO Genie Professional Edition sells for $500 per developer licence. The Professional Edition is ideal for Web and 2-tier applications and includes robust connection pooling and caching services. The JDO Genie Enterprise Edition sells for $2 000 per developer licence and includes JCA adapters for popular application servers. There are no runtime costs for either edition.
