Jiaxing electric power selects CA`s Unicenter and eTrust to centralize it management and ensure security

Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) today announced that Jiaxing Electric Power has selected CA`s acclaimed Unicenter and eTrust solutions to centralize the management and security of its heterogeneous IT environment. By deploying the CA solutions, Jiaxing Electric will maximize the reliability of its critical computing systems while significantly improving the efficiency of IT operations.

Jiaxing Electric provides end-to-end power grid services - including electrical plant consulting, design, construction, installation and provisioning of electricity infrastructure - for the entire Jiaxing municipality of more than three million people in China`s Zhejiang Province. Jiaxing Electric`s heterogeneous IT system consists of more than 30 servers, including DEC Alpha, IBM AS/400 and RISC6000 platforms and Sun servers. Client systems include more than 300 desktops. The network`s operating systems include Tru64, AIX, Solaris, OS/400, and Windows.

Following the rapid expansion of its IT systems and enterprise network, Jiaxing Electric`s IT staff members faced the daunting challenge of centralizing the monitoring and management of its diverse IT resources. At the same time, they sought a way to ensure the security of the utility`s critical information resources. After thorough comparisons, Jiaxing Electric selected CA`s Unicenter infrastructure management and eTrust security management solutions.

When a problem or potential problem occurs on the network, the event management capability of Unicenter automatically alerts IT administrators. These solutions enable Jiaxing Electric`s IT managers to rapidly assess the network`s status, guaranteeing network and system stability, while greatly reducing the workload of IT administrators.

Jiaxing Electric also selected Unicenter Asset Management, Unicenter Software Delivery, and Unicenter Remote Control. These solutions centralize management of Jiaxing Electric`s diverse system assets, including the automatic updating and distribution of software to desktops. These solutions are enabling Jiaxing Electric to save time and increase the productivity of its IT staff. CA`s eTrust security management solutions provide Jiaxing with comprehensive defense, access control, and policy-based administration functions - creating a protective shield around the utility`s vital computing assets. eTrust Intrusion Detection strengthens Jiaxing Electric`s network against external attacks, while eTrust VPN secures communications between users and enterprise servers. eTrust Access Control, eTrust Admin, and eTrust Audit enable Jiaxing Electric to tightly control access to key assets, simplifying security management and delivering an enterprise-wide security audit trail.

Throughout the planning and implementation of the entire project, CA`s project managers consulted with Jiaxing Electric`s IT administrators to guarantee the successful implementation of the software solutions.
