Corporate restructuring at a global level will probably result in job losses at InterSystems' local operations.
Henry Adams, InterSystems SA's country manager, yesterday confirmed it is consulting with local employees, as the company looks to streamline operations and improve focus in several of the organisation's locations.
InterSystems has been in SA for five years, building partnerships with local developers and developing a market for its object database, integration software and health information exchange platform solutions, Adams says.
However, the local market has not progressed as quickly as the company would have liked and it is now revisiting its strategy, he adds.
"InterSystems is still a highly-successful company on a global basis, bringing in its highest revenues during the last financial year. Nevertheless, the local operation is just not producing the numbers to warrant our current level of investment," explains Adams.
Revisiting investment
This has resulted in a change of strategy, which will see the company's local engagements largely remain the same, but investments in sales, marketing and administration significantly reduced.
"We are still committed to SA and our local partners. Our focus on our current software partners will stand and we intend to be more aggressive in the enterprise healthcare space. Unfortunately, we will probably see some job losses as we look to leverage operational resources in the UK."
Adams says InterSystems is investigating every possible solution for its South African workforce, including speaking to partners for possible recruitment.
"We are very sensitive to our employees and general staffing issues. Our employees are fantastic and we intend to do the best for them that we can. This includes lengthy consultations with individual employees and discussions with partners and customers for possible recruitment. At this stage though, we are only in the consultation phase of the process and no firm decisions have been made."
