JSE-listed Ixchange has appointed Business Connection as a business and HEAT VAR.

Johannesburg, 27 May 1999

The announcement comes as part of Ixchange`s drive to introduce HEAT into new and emerging markets, and to initiate a cross-transfer of HEAT and business development skills throughout its strategic network of partners. Business Connection, a largely black-owned and managed company, is a certified Microsoft Solution Provider (MSP) and one of a small number of Microsoft Large Account Resellers (LAR) supplying Microsoft-backed integration, software consulting, customisation, application development, technical training and support services.

CEO Isaac Mophatlane says his company`s commitment to adding value to black economic empowerment in business and nurturing IT productivity is closely aligned with Ixchange`s market development strategy and integrated helpdesk philosophy.

"We expect two things from this partnership," says Mophatlane. "First, to grow the existing user base of Ixchange`s HEAT products, and second, to cross-pollinate our own business and technical skills with Ixchange`s extensive local and international business and software development expertise."

Mophatlane says that IT for IT`s sake has very little value for business in a competitive market and can become counterproductive if the right tools and skills aren`t matched correctly to real business needs.

"Our value lies in finding IT solutions for our clients, irrespective of their current applications, and to tailor our solutions to fit their specific business requirements," he adds.

"It`s no good implementing solutions for your clients if you can`t support them, and the only way to support them efficiently in today`s multi-user environment is through the helpdesk," says Mophatlane. "HEAT is designed to better manage the helpdesk and allocate limited resources to providing comprehensive database- driven support. I`m positive our partnership will go a long way to helping Business Connection in planning its own HEAT implementation as an end-to end helpdesk solution, and then pass on its benefits to our clients."

"Whether you`re dealing with 100 or 2 000 users, it doesn`t help having four or five support technicians to support your client`s organisation," he continues. "HEAT automates many of the tasks associated with running your helpdesk, including the central repository of information your engineers can call on from the field."

Mophatlane sees Business Connection carrying the full line of Ixchange software in the near future and says he is keen too have his engineers trained-up on products they have never worked with before. "As we become a niche solution provider we`ll be able to market Ixchange`s products in our clients` circles, from installation and implementation to management and support," he says. "This will enable us to offer a complete solution as an Ixchange VAR and further our own ambitions in the process."
