Juniper to secure MS IPTV
Juniper Networks is to provide security technology such as firewall and intrusion-detection services for Microsoft`s Internet-based TV (IPTV) platform, reports Sci-Tech Today.
Microsoft TV IPTV Edition is a platform designed to allow telcos and other TV distribution providers to supply Internet broadcast services.
Juniper says it is focusing on service providers rather than end-users and will be mainly protecting the upstream connections traffic that is handled by the Microsoft video-on-demand server and the Microsoft TV distribution server. However, Juniper says the technology could also be used to provide security for all the other parts of the network against attacks such as Trojans, viruses and spyware.
Toshiba touts 200GB laptops
Toshiba has unveiled a 2.5-inch, double-platter hard disc with a capacity of 200GB, taking mobile storage capacity to a new level, according to Techspot.
The new serial ATA II drive, to be available from August, has 8MB of buffer memory and uses perpendicular magnetic recording technology to hold 277.1Mb per square millimetre to achieve a drive density that surpasses the current record also held by Toshiba.
Toshiba says larger data capacity in a small form factor HDD is essential for continued advances in the notebook PC market and in personal audio and video applications.
Web media receives top ranking
Web media has been ranked as number one in the business environment and daytime media, according to a new report from the Online Publishers` Association.
News.Com says the report is based on a research project conducted by Ball State University`s Centre for Media Design, which tracked the media use of 350 people every 15 seconds using a handheld computer.
A conservative estimate from the study says 17% of overall media is consumed via the Internet. The study report notes that at present only 8% of advertising goes to the Internet, but says this may soon change in the light of this and other studies of media consumption.
